RECOUNT TEXT

 

1.     Definition

Recount text is a text that telling the reader about one story, action or activity. Its goal is to entertaining or informing the reader or Recount is a text which retells event or experiences in the past. 

2.     Purpose

The purpose of a recount is to list and describe past experiences by retelling events in the order in which they happened. Recounts are written to retell events with the purpose of either informing or entertaining their audience (or both).

In a simple word the purpose of recount text is to retell past experience.

3.     Text Structure

a.     Orientation :

It gives the readers the background information needed to understand the text, such as who was involved, where it happened, and when it happened.

b.     Events :

A series of events, ordered in a chronological sequence.

c.     Re-orientation :

A personal comment about the event or what happened in the end.

4.    Expressions / sentences

1)     Using the simple past tense, past continuous tense, past perfect  tense, and past perfect continuous tense.

2)     Using temporal sequence, e.g. On Saturday. On Monday, On Sunday

3)     Focus on specific participant, e.g. I (the writer)

4)     Using the conjunctions, such as: then, before, after, etc.

5)     Using action verd, e.g. went, stayed

 

5.    Types of Recount text

1)    Personal Accounts

Personal recount text is a type of text that aims to tell about the author's personal experiences. Personal recount is the most common type that is often found in recount writing.

2)    Factual Recount

Have you ever heard of this type of text? Factual recount text is a story to present reports related to events that occurred based on facts (actually happened).

So, this is not fixated on personal events, it could also be the events of other people. Examples include reports about science experiments a.k.a science or police reports.

3)    Imaginative Recount

Not only narrative text, recount text also has an imaginative type. Imaginative recount is a text that is usually used by someone as a story from an imaginative event that is experienced by someone. For example, recount text which tells the author's experience about the fantasy he got from a dream.

4)    Historical Accounts

Historical recount is a form of recount text whose contents tell historical events. In essence, this text is a historical story in English. Eits, but different from narrative huh.

In narrative, it is a fantasy. Meanwhile in the recount text, the history that is told really happened in the past. An example is the proclamation of Indonesian independence.

5)    Literary recount
