1.      Definition

survey is a method for collecting information from groups that represent a population.

Etymologically, the word survey comes from the Latin which consists of the word sur which means above or beyond and the word videre which means to see. Thus, survey means to look above or beyond.

2.      Function

·        Determines the position of an object

·        Develop, test and calibrate sensors

·        Obtain and use spatial information

·        Determine the position of land boundaries

·        Planning and forming GIS of an area
